An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is a companion pet that provides the necessary support and comfort to people dealing with emotional and/ or mental health challenges, including stress, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), insomnia, depression, and many others!
Unlike service animals, ESAs have limited access to public spaces such as restaurants and shops. However, they are granted special rights regarding housing. Under the Fair Housing Act, ESAs are considered a “reasonable accommodation,” allowing people with ESAs to keep their pets in residences that otherwise prohibit pets.
Additionally, landlords CANNOT impose pet fees on ESAs!
All of the necessary information will be provided and readily available on your ESA/ PSD letter that you will be given, and it will all come on the approving licensed medical professional’s professional letterhead with all of their required information: Name, Contact Information, License Information, Credentials, and Signature!
